A PolyUrethane Foam (PUF) sampler is used to determine what variety of organochlorine pesticides and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are present in ambient air. All of the PUF samplers at New Star were designed to meet U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Compendium Methods TO-4A, TO-9A and TO-13A. The PUF sampler operates in conjuction with a modified high volume air sampler, consisting of a glass fiber filter with a PolyUrethane foam backup absorbent cartridge used to sample ambient air at a rate of ~ 200 to 280 liters per minute.
